James F. Trobert, B.A., LL.B.

James’ primary areas of general practice include real estate, wills and estates, municipal law, corporate/commercial, and civil litigation. He has appeared in all levels of Saskatchewan courts (Provincial Court, Queen’s Bench Court, and the Court of Appeal) as well as many boards and tribunals.

Born and raised in Estevan, James received his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in Political Studies in 1994 from the University of Saskatchewan. In 1996, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the College of Law at the U of S, and was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar on July 16, 1997.

James articled and was employed with Ed Komarnicki at Komarnicki Law Firm in Estevan and later in partnership under Komarnicki Trobert. On March 1, 2008, Trobert Law Firm Prof. Corp. commenced operating as a professional legal corporation.
On March 4, 2020, he and Kathryn Gilliss formed Trobert Gilliss Law Firm. James’ wife Doris does administration and bookkeeping for the firm.

Outside of the firm, James putters on the acreage he shares with Doris and enjoys family time with their children, camping, and traveling.

He’s also very involved in the community. In addition to serving as Councillor for the RM of Estevan, James has been a member of many local boards and committees, including Souris Moose Mountain Conservative Association, United Way Estevan, Estevan Minor Football, Lampman Community Theatre, Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association, Estevan Rotary Club, Estevan Minor Football, and is a member of the Southeast Bar Association.

Kathryn E.A. Gilliss, B.A. (Hons.), J.D.

Kathryn’s primary areas of general practice include criminal defence, civil litigation, real estate, wills and estates, employment law, and corporate/commercial. She has appeared before the Provincial Courts of Saskatchewan and Alberta, and the Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench.

Kathryn was raised in Estevan, and attended the University of Calgary where she received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Political Studies in 2010, completing her Honours Thesis entitled “Harper’s Conservatives & Youth Crime: The Plan, The Delay, The Dialogue.”

She completed additional course work at the University of Calgary towards a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society in 2010 – 2011. She then attended the College of Law at the University of Calgary, graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree in 2014.

Kathryn worked as a summer student at Trobert Law Firm in 2012 and 2013, returning in June 2014 for her articles. In May 2015, she received the 2015 Articling Student Proficiency Award, sponsored by the Saskatchewan Provincial Court Judges Association, and was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar on June 2, 2015.

Together with her husband Dylan, she enjoys traveling and spending time with their family and friends. Kathryn is also an avid soccer player and golfer, and is a Skate Canada certified Skating Judge and Technical Specialist.

Kathryn has been involved with the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, Souris Moose Mountain Conservative Electoral District Association, the Kinette Club of Estevan, Relay for Life Estevan, and Carstars Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History. She is also a volunteer lawyer with Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan, a member of the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association, student chair and council member of the Canadian Bar Association – Alberta and Saskatchewan Branches, and is a member of the Southeast Bar Association.

Paulette Denouden

Born and raised in Estevan, Paulette attended Calgary Career College where she obtained her Legal Assistant Diploma in 1988. After working in various office administrative positions, she ran her own home daycare when her children were young.

Paulette was receptionist at Komarnicki Trobert Law Firm from 2000 to 2003, and rejoined Trobert Law Firm as a legal assistant in 2008. Paulette is married to Brad, and together they enjoy camping, traveling, hosting family and friends on their acreage, and most of all, spending time with their grandchildren.

Lisa Petterson

Lisa was born and raised in Oxbow. After graduating in 2008, she attended the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2009, she moved to Estevan and joined the firm as receptionist, progressing to a legal assistant position in 2012.

Lisa enrolled in the Legal Administrative Assistant program with Thompson Rivers University and received her certificate in 2014. Lisa enjoys reading, photography, and spending time with her husband, children, and their many nieces and nephews.
